THE OTHER ONE IS THE SAVANNAH RIVER PLANT, LOCATED JUST NORTH OF JACKSONVILLE, NEAR BRUNSWICK, GEORGIA. A DETONATION, OR RELEASE OF RADIATION FROM EITHER SITE MAY, OR MAY NOT, EFFECT US IN MARION COUNTY.
WHAT IS A NUCLEAR MELT-DOWN ?
A MELT-DOWN IS WHERE A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION HAS NOT TAKEN PLACE, BUT A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT HAS RELEASED RADIATION DUE TO A TERRORIST ACTION. THIS IS WHAT TOOK PLACE AT CHERNOBYL, RUSSIA. THAT RADIATION CAUSED THE DEATHS OF OVER 100,000 PEOPLE BY CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATES. OTHER ESTIMATES SUGGEST THAT CLOSE TO ONE MILLION PEOPLE DIED. MOST OF THESE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THE PEOPLE HAD PREPARED THEMSELVES AFTER RECEIVING WARNING.
A MELT-DOWN IS NOT A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION. THERE IS NO FIREBALL, OR MUSHROOM CLOUD. IT IS A CONTINUOUS AND SLOW RELEASE OF RADIATION. DEPENDING UPON HOW QUICKLY THE GOVERNMENT IS ABLE TO CONTAIN THE RADIATION LEAKS, THIS CONDITION COULD CONTINUE FROM ONE WEEK TO OVER A YEAR.
NUCLEAR RADIATION COMES FROM A CLOUD EMITTED BY A LEAKING NUCLEAR REACTOR. THIS CLOUD IS MOVED BY ATMOSPHERIC WINDS, JUST AS ANY OTHER CLOUDS. IT MAY MOVE TOWARD THE OCEAN, OR DIRECTLY WEST, AVOIDING CONTAMINATION OF OUR AREA. IF IT MOVES TOWARD THE NORTH, SPECIFICALLY TOWARD CENTRAL FLORIDA, WE WOULD NEED SOME PROTECTION FROM RADIATION.
IN THE EVENT THAT CENTRAL FLORIDA HAS ONLY RADIATION DANGER DUE TO A PERIODIC EXPOSURE (LESS THAN TWO TO THREE HOURS AT EACH OCCURANCE) TO A RADIATION CLOUD, THIS IS A SURVIVABLE CONDITION, AND YOU SHOULD USE YOUR SAFEROOM DURING THE HOURS BEFORE IT IS EXPECTED, AND FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTER THE ALL-CLEAR HAS BEEN SOUNDED.
The danger from radiation will last as long as the radiation leak continues, and until the radiation cloud is gone, and for a long time thereafter. The degree of danger will depend upon the amount of radiation in the air. Even after radiation levels subside, precautions must be taken due to residual radiation for at least one week. Following the confinement, NO food, water, or drinks that were exposed to radiation should be used. Anything you touch which could have been contaminated should be thoroughly washed and rinsed of with detergents.
PROTECTION FROM RADIATION:
Short of wearing a lead suit, there are a few things that a person should do as soon as the danger begins. Even when others SAY that the danger is over, it may not be, and a prudent use of covering the skin is important. The most dangerous radiation is gamma radiation. It is not like a virus which flows through the blood stream. Where is stops, it stops. If it hits your thyroid, this is should be a major area of concern. Therefore, be sure to have your neck well protected.
PILLS FOR RADIATION ?
Some scientists have experimented on this, and have found that iodine tablets are effective in helping to prevent the damage done to the thyroid gland and other parts of the body.
"There is no medicine that will effectively prevent nuclear radiations from damaging the human body cells that they strike.
However, a salt of the elements potassium and iodine, taken orally even in very small quantities 1/2 hour to 1 day before radioactive iodines are swallowed or inhaled, prevents about 99% of the damage to the thyroid gland that otherwise would result. The thyroid gland readily absorbs both non-radioactive and radioactive iodine, and normally it retains much of this element in either or both forms.
When ordinary, non-radioactive iodine is made available in the blood for absorption by the thyroid gland before any radioactive iodine is made available, the gland will absorb and retain so much that it becomes saturated with non-radioactive iodine. When saturated, the thyroid can absorb only about l% as much additional iodine, including radioactive forms that later may become available in the blood: then it is said to be blocked. (Excess iodine in the blood is rapidly eliminated by the action of the kidneys.)"
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) stated July 1, 1998 in USE OF POTASSIUM IODIDE IN EMERGENCY RESPONSE:
"Potassium iodide, if taken in time, blocks the thyroid gland's uptake of radioactive iodine and thus could help prevent thyroid cancers and other diseases that might otherwise be caused by exposure to airborne radioactive iodine that could be dispersed in a nuclear accident."
National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements. NCRP Report NO. 55. Protection of the Thyroid Gland in the Event of Releases of Radioiodine. August, 1979, Page 32: "A major protective action to be considered after a serious accident at a nuclear power facility involving the release of radioiodine is the use of stable iodide as a thyroid blocking agent to prevent thyroid uptake of radioiodines."
Whether from a melt-down, or an actual nuclear catastrophe, Potassium Iodide tablets (KI3) has been advised as a suitable preventative for radiation fallout. In Europe, these tablets are distributed by the governments there, and kept in households for possible use.
One expert, on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, writes this:
"As a result (of America’s refusal to take terrorism on our shores seriously), we are still in a pre-Three Mile Island state of preparedeness on KI, when the drug is routinely stockpiled (and in some countries predistributed to individual houses) in many European countries, including France, Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Sweden, Norway, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, etc., plus Japan and Canada."
NUCLEAR (RADIATION) CONTAMINATION
In Russia, there have been many problems with nuclear contamination. At one waste site, 22 surrounding villages were evacuated due to the radiation poisoning. These are the results; the severe environmental contamination of this region led to dramatic increases in cancer rates, birth defects, and sterility. Over the past 33 years, there has been a 21% increase in the incidences of cancer, 25% increase in birth defects and 50% of the population of child bearing age are sterile.
A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION
Contrary to some recent news reports, even if twenty hi-powered nuclear bombs were exploded on the East Coast of the USA, the United States—many people on the East Coast would survive. A heavy nuclear exchange is survivable with the proper precautions. Today, it is known that there are several “suit-case” nuclear bombs inside the USA which have not been detected, yet. These have a relatively small nuclear device in them, but they are capable of inflicting deaths many times more than the WTC tragedy.
A twenty Megaton Nuclear Bomb will instantly kill almost everyone within a 10 mile diameter of the blast. There will be no pain to those within that area, since the results of the blast will be that quick.
Almost everyone within a twenty mile radius will receive severe burns, and 70 percent will die within two weeks. Those in a radius of 50 miles will suffer from radiation burns in varying degrees, and many will die within 6 months. Those within a range of 100 miles from ground zero (if they were unprotected at the time of the blast) will suffer from some thyroid disorder or cancerous tumors within two years, and 70 percent will die within two years from the time they contracted the disease. People who are continuously exposed to the radiation cloud which pollutes their soil, water, etc., will have an average lifespan of 10-15 years past the event.
COLLATERAL DAMAGE FROM NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS:
A fireball incinerates everything in its’ path within the 10 mile radius. However, where there is burnable materials, especially woods and forest areas, such as exist in Florida, it is possible that a firestorm of a magnitude never before seen in Florida could occur. If news reports indicate that this is what is happening, it is advisable to leave the area.
